The Growth Cycle
Eyelashes go through three phases. The anagen phase is the growth phase, where the follicles are active and the lashes are growing — this phase lasts 30 to 45 days. The catagen phase is the transition phase, where the follicle begins to shrink and the lash reaches its maximum strength; it lasts two to three weeks. The telogen phase is the resting phase, where the lash rests and eventually falls out to make room for a new one — this phase lasts up to 100 days.
Understanding the cycle explains why it takes time to see results from a serum, and why consistency is key. You cannot speed up nature, but you can give it the best possible conditions.
Nutrition and Hydration
What you eat and drink affects your lashes more than you might think. Dehydration is one of the most common causes of sparse and weak lashes. Aim for at least two litres of water a day and cut back on salty foods, which dry out the hair and skin.
Foods rich in omega-3 — such as salmon and walnuts — strengthen the follicles and improve blood flow. Eggs and almonds are packed with biotin, which stimulates hair growth and strengthens each individual lash. Berries, blueberries, and leafy greens contain vitamins A and C as well as antioxidants that protect against damage and encourage cell renewal.
Natural Remedies
Castor oil applied with a cotton bud along the lash line in the evening helps keep lashes smooth and strong, and is said to improve growth over time. Aloe vera gel broken straight from the leaf contains nutrients and antioxidants that stimulate growth and strengthen the follicles. Vaseline creates a protective barrier against dust and dirt, keeping lashes soft and less brittle — which in turn creates better conditions for growth.
Serums for Real Results
Natural remedies can offer some support, but an eyelash serum is the most effective way to actually influence the lash growth cycle. Xlash Eyelash Serum is formulated with biotin and active peptides that target the follicles directly to extend the growth period, strengthen each individual lash, and improve colour and thickness. Apply along the lash root every evening and expect to see visible results within 28 days.
Make-up and Cleansing
Make-up habits affect lash health more than most people realise. Waterproof mascara is difficult to remove, and the mechanical rubbing during removal can pull out lashes prematurely. Always use a gentle make-up remover — such as our Caring Eyes Make Up Remover — and avoid rubbing around the eye area.
Eyelash curlers that are old or do not suit your eye shape can make lashes brittle with repeated use. Invest in a new curler that matches your eye shape and always curl before mascara, never after. Our Eyelash Curler gives an even, gentle lift that keeps your lashes in top condition.
Healthy lashes are about prevention, not repair. Give them the right nourishment, treat them with care, and let the serum do the work.
