Pluck your eyebrows at home and get the perfect shape in no time without spending money or time at the salon? Yes, please! Here are our best tips, step by step.
Preparation before you pluck
What you need to get started
Before you begin tweezing, it helps to have everything you need close to hand:
- A pair of tweezers
- A mirror
- A brow pencil
Trim and shape long or bushy brows
If you have bushy brows or long individual hairs, start by trimming them with a small pair of scissors.
Do this by brushing your brows downwards with a brow brush, a clean mascara wand, or a brow gel. Then carefully trim any hairs that sit outside your desired shape.
That way you can see clearly what you have to work with!
How to pluck your eyebrows step by step
Step 1: Find the starting point of your brow
Turn your tweezers upside down or use a pencil. Hold it against the side of one nostril, pointing straight up. That is a good starting point for your brow.
Make a light mark upwards with a brow pencil or eyeliner so you remember the position. Repeat on the other side.
This helps you avoid brows that look too close together or too sparse.
Step 2: Tweeze the hairs between your brows
Remove the hairs between your two marks.
The hairs here can be very fine and tricky to grip, so use a precise pair of tweezers to make it easier - Xbrow Tweezer works really well for this.
Step 3: Find where your brow should end
Now it is time to work out where your brow should finish. Use your tweezers or a pencil again.
Place it against the side of your nostril and angle it diagonally upwards (if you are using tweezers, point the tip downwards towards your nose). The tool should be angled so that the other end lines up with the outer corner of your eye.
Make a new mark at that point.
Step 4: Tweeze to get the right brow length
Remove any hairs that sit beyond your marking.
This ensures your brows look neither too long nor too short.
Step 5: Find the highest point of your brow
The arch is where your brow should be at its highest. Find it by looking straight into the mirror and angling the pencil from the side of your nostril up over your pupil.
Make a small dot there. At this point you can remove a few extra hairs if you want to create the illusion of a higher arch.
Step 6: Decide on the thickness of your brows
Between the starting point and the highest point of your brow, you can now tweeze hairs from underneath to decide how thick you would like them to be.
Mark with a pencil and carefully remove one hair at a time until you find your look.
Remember! When you are starting out, always tweeze less rather than more — and never pluck from above the brow as a beginner.
Step 7: Shape the tail of your brow
The section between the highest point and the end of your brow can be thinned out if you want a sharper look.
Remove one hair at a time - it is easy to go too thin here!
How to pluck your eyebrows without pain tips for gentler tweezing
There are a few tricks you can use to make plucking a little less uncomfortable.
- Have a warm shower beforehand and tweeze in the bathroom. The warmth and steam open up your pores.
- Always tweeze in the direction the hair grows.
- Use a high-quality pair of tweezers that grips every hair cleanly on the first try.
Remember that the most important thing is that you are happy with your brows - these are recommendations to guide you, not strict rules. There is no right or wrong as long as you love the result.
