Eyebrow Mistakes You Should Avoid

Well-groomed brows don't have to be complicated — but a few common mistakes can do more harm than good. Here's what to watch out for, and how to get the most out of what you already have.

You're choosing the wrong shape for your face

Not every brow shape suits every face. Use your natural shape as a starting point and adapt from there. Straight brows work well on longer faces and help shorten their appearance visually. A high arch flatters a rounder face. You can never make brows grow where there's no hair already, so always work with what you have. If you'd like fuller brows to work with, Xbrow Eyebrow Serum visibly thickens and defines brows in 28 days.

You're relying too heavily on a stencil

Eyebrow stencils don't know what suits your face. A shape that looks perfect on the packaging can look off on you. Use your natural shape as a guide and fill in with the Micro Sculpting Brow Pencil for a natural, precise result.

You're skipping the highlighter

A touch of highlighter directly beneath the brow lifts the entire face and creates the illusion of higher, more defined brows. It takes ten seconds and makes a real difference.

You're choosing too dark a shade

Brows should frame the face, not overpower it. Choose a shade close to your natural hair colour, or one shade darker, for a natural result. Brows that are too dark draw attention away from your eyes rather than enhancing them.

You're forgetting to trim

Well-trimmed brows actually look fuller and hold makeup better. Comb the hairs upward and trim along the line where the brow grows. Go carefully — and not too short.

You're over-plucking

This is by far the most common mistake. Only remove stray hairs that clearly sit outside your brow shape, and keep as many of the darker hairs as possible. Over-plucking can result in hairs that don't grow back — leaving you stuck with a shape you never chose.

You're over-correcting against a monobrow

If you pluck too aggressively between your brows, you risk creating an unnaturally large gap. Use a brush held along the side of your nostril as a guide for where your brow should begin.

You're neglecting your brows altogether

Even naturally beautiful brows benefit from a little extra attention. A bit of trimming and grooming makes them look more polished and gives a cleaner overall impression — much like getting your hair cut regularly. It needn't take more than a few minutes a week to make a real difference.
