Ingredient deep dive – Rosemary

Why your scalp loves rosemary

Benefits of rosemary for a sensitive, itchy scalp

Rosemary is said to have several antiseptic properties that can help with a sensitive, itchy scalp. The herb is also said to have benefits such as:

  • Improving blood circulation in the scalp, which in turn can stimulate hair growth
  • Soothing a sensitive scalp and acting as an antioxidant
  • Possibly reducing hair loss

How to make your own rosemary water for your scalp

You’ll need:

  • 750 ml water
  • 10 whole sprigs of rosemary
  • 4 sprigs of mint (optional)

Here’s how:

  • Bring the water to the boil and add the rosemary and mint.
  • Leave to simmer for an hour. The water should take on a red/purple tint.
  • Let the infusion cool, then pour the water through a sieve into a spray bottle.
  • Spray the water onto your scalp and massage it in with your fingers or a scalp brush. There’s no need to rinse it out. Then style your hair as usual.
