8 Tips for Perfect Lashes Every Time

There are many tricks to achieve longer and more prominent eyelashes, perhaps so many that it even makes it harder. Xlash has met with hair and makeup artist Tove Dalsryd to find out which method is actually the best and what the next big eyelash trend will be. She also reveals the best makeup tips for quickly and easily creating longer and fuller lashes.

Makeup artist Tove Dalsryd's best tips for enhancing your lashes

Through Tove Dalsryd's Instagram account @tovedalsryd, you can follow behind the scenes of everything from exciting photo shoots with influencer Margaux Dietz and major fashion brands to video recordings with artists like Silvana Imam and Steve Angello from Swedish House Mafia. Something she excels at is makeup looks with a glow "to die for," where lashes and eyebrows take center stage. If anyone knows the secret tricks to get fuller and longer eyelashes, it's definitely Tove Dalsryd.

"I first studied fashion science and then realized I wanted to become a makeup artist. The best part of my job is the variety and all the interesting people you get to work with," says Tove.

Eyelash serum – a healthier alternative to eyelash extensions

Recently, permanent eyelash extensions at salons have been very trendy. It can be tempting to get longer lashes in an instant, but it's an expensive treatment and can damage your own lashes. A more natural way to get longer and fuller lashes is to use an eyelash serum.

"The only thing that has worked for me is eyelash serum. When I was younger, I used to apply Vaseline on my eyelashes but didn't notice much difference," says Tove.

An eyelash serum that is effective and safe to use is Xlash Eyelash Serum. The product is developed with natural ingredients and an exclusive, high-tech formula based on advanced science. The serum improves the growth of eyelashes at the cellular level. After 28 days of use, you can enjoy your "new" longer and fuller lashes. Xlash is used by 3 million women worldwide, and Tove Dalsryd is one of many satisfied with the serum's effect.

"I used Xlash a few years ago and got longer lashes, which was fantastic. When I used the serum, I really saw results, and it was fun to have extra-long lashes! In recent years, I've used a lot of false eyelashes but have now mostly switched to just using mascara and am considering starting to use it again," says Tove Dalsryd.

False eyelashes – the secret to models' full lashes

False eyelashes are a smart option if you want to quickly achieve dramatically long and festive lashes. For the inexperienced, they can initially seem quite tricky to use. We asked Tove how to succeed.

"Use a black eyelash glue and make sure to remove old glue if you're reusing them. There's nothing worse than a false eyelash line where you can see the entire glue edge. After you've applied the lashes and the glue has dried, always apply a liquid eyeliner over the lashes," says Tove.

What's the secret behind models' perfect lashes?

"The secret behind a perfect lash line is often that the makeup artist has filled in any gaps with individual lashes," Tove explains.

If you're not ready to try eyelash extensions or false eyelashes, what other "hacks" are there to achieve dream lashes?

"Doing a lash line is an effective way to make lashes appear thicker and add more intensity to the eyes. I usually apply a creamy, waterproof eyeliner on the upper waterline and really work it into the lashes. After that, I take a small, flat brush and work a dark eyeshadow into the lashes from above. Another trick is to use a really good eyelash curler, which is the most important thing for achieving perfect eyelashes and really opening up the eye. I also use a smaller eyelash curler to get the lashes at the outer corners as well.

How do you apply mascara in the best way if you want to lengthen your lashes?

"I always start by working the mascara thoroughly into the lash roots before working my way outwards. Then I let the mascara half-dry before applying a second layer to make them extra long."

What's most important if you want to go for a "no makeup" look and enhance the eyes?

"Curling the lashes and brushing through the brows!"

The natural look – the next big eyelash trend

Everything from unnaturally dramatic lashes to mascaras in all sorts of colors has been in for a long time. Tove Dalsryd believes the next big trend will lean towards the more natural, as a reaction to the recent years' massive makeup explosion. But she also senses another trend.

"I think false eyelashes for the lower lashes will become more popular, and it's really an effective way to accentuate the eyes. However, I've noticed that more and more people are starting to skip false eyelashes altogether, especially eyelash extensions, and I think we're moving more and more towards a natural look when it comes to lashes," says Tove.

At Xlash, we believe it's important to follow what you feel comfortable with. If the natural look isn't for you and you're more drawn to last year's trend of colorful lashes, Tove has a great tip.

"Personally, I think it's nicest to just apply the color to the tips and first apply black mascara at the lash roots. That way, you still get the intensity that black mascara gives while highlighting the color at the tips," says Tove.
