Xlash is a proud Pink Business Friend of Cancerfonden

Xlash is a Pink Business Friend of Cancerfonden 2020! We are incredibly proud to be part of their enormously important work in the fight against breast cancer.

Did you know that approximately 20 women are diagnosed with cancer every day? Around one third of all women who get cancer are diagnosed with breast cancer specifically. Over recent decades, the chances of survival have increased considerably, mainly because cancer is now detected at earlier stages and treatment methods have improved greatly. This work is invaluable, and Xlash Cosmetics is proud to be involved as a business friend. This year, Cancerfonden is funding approximately 500 research projects that are helping fewer people to be affected and more people to survive.

Pink Ribbon 2020

This year's Pink Ribbon design was created by First Aid Kit — the sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg — and is made from pink corduroy fabric with a small heart. This year there is also a bracelet that has become very popular! According to the Söderberg sisters, the ribbon symbolises hope, love, and strength. Read more about Pink Ribbon 2020 here.

Self-examination Day (Klämdagen)

One way to be proactive is to carry out a self-examination every month. This is known as Klämdagen (Self-examination Day), and it is definitely something you should introduce into your routine. Bröstcancerförbundet has developed an app called Klämdagen that we recommend you use! It is completely free and available for both iPhone and Android. It reminds you when it is time for your self-examination and walks you through the process step by step. Detecting cancer early and learning to recognise the symptoms can save lives.

What Cancerfonden contributes

Thirty years ago, fewer than 60% of patients survived ten years after falling ill. Today that figure is closer to 85 per cent. Absolutely remarkable! Several breakthroughs have been made along the way — for example, DNA mapping in the 1950s led to the ability to study the biological mechanisms behind breast cancer; in the 1970s, studies on mammography were introduced; and in the 2000s the first national care programme for breast cancer treatment was launched.

Key figures

  • Cases in Sweden are increasing by 2.2% every year
  • 30% of all female cancers are breast cancer
  • 3 out of 4 of those affected are over 55 years old

All figures and information are from Cancerfonden and Bröstcancerfonden.
