The Ultimate Gift Guide – For the Beauty Lover

Xlash is a Pink Corporate Partner of the American Cancer Society 2020! We are very proud to contribute to their incredibly important work in the fight against breast cancer.

Did you know that approximately 20 women are diagnosed with cancer every day? About one-third of all women who get cancer are diagnosed with breast cancer. In recent decades, the chance of survival has increased significantly, mainly because cancer is detected at earlier stages and treatment methods have improved. The work is invaluable, and Xlash Cosmetics is proud to be involved as a corporate partner. This year, the American Cancer Society is funding approximately 500 research projects that help reduce the number of cases and increase survival rates.

Pink Ribbon 2020

This year's pink ribbon design is by First Aid Kit, consisting of sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg, and is made of pink corduroy with a small heart on it. This year, there's also a bracelet that has become very popular! According to the Söderberg sisters, the ribbon symbolizes hope, love, and strength. Read more about Pink Ribbon 2020 here.

Self-Check Day

One way to work preventively is to perform a self-examination every month. It's called Self-Check Day and is definitely something you should incorporate into your routine. The Breast Cancer Foundation has developed an app called Self-Check Day, which we recommend you use! It is completely free and available for both iPhone and Android. It reminds you when it's time for your self-examination and guides you step-by-step on how to do it. Detecting cancer early and learning to recognize the symptoms can save lives.

What the American Cancer Society Contributes

Thirty years ago, less than 60% survived ten years after being diagnosed. Today, that number is closer to 85 percent. Absolutely fantastic! Several breakthroughs have been made, such as the mapping of the DNA spiral in the 1950s, which led to the study of biological mechanisms in breast cancer, mammography studies in the 1970s, and the launch of the first national treatment program for breast cancer in the 2000s.

Important Numbers

  • 2.2% increase in cases in the US each year
  • 30% of all female cancer is breast cancer
  • 3/4 of those affected are over 55 years old

All numbers and information come from the American Cancer Society and the Breast Cancer Foundation.
