Eye shape & colour: your guide to makeup that actually works

We've all scrolled past a flawless tutorial and thought "I can do that" — only to look in the mirror and see something else entirely. The truth? Most advice isn't made for you. And that matters.

The right makeup starts with knowing your eye shape and colour. Not to follow rules, but to understand what actually lifts you.

Your eye shape

Almond eyes — the classic shape that suits almost everything. Mascara goes a long way. Want more? A clean wing follows the natural flow of your eye line.

Round eyes — the iris is fully visible and your eyes pop on their own. A wing drawn outward (not upward) creates length without emphasising the roundness.

Hooded eyes — more lid, more surface to play with. Primer is a must. Apply eyeshadow with your eyes open and extend it above the crease for an open, intense look.

Upturned eyes — a shape we all try to imitate. Let them show. Follow the line with gel liner close to the lashes, with a wing that simply continues naturally.

Downturned eyes — more surface, more possibilities. Blend light to dark outward and upward in the crease. A wing lifts. A soft brown liner gives a more natural effect.

Your eye colour

Brown eyes — more versatile than you think. Plum, gold and bronze highlight the light flecks. Rose gold and mauve create a natural, almost bare look — but with impact.

Blue eyes — no rules here. Black liner creates contrast. Peach and soft orange work surprisingly well as complements. Want drama? Galactic blue with glitter.

Green eyes — rare, and copper plus bronze are your best friends. Pink and light purple create smart contrast. Silver is to green eyes what nude is to brown — a pedestal.

The point

There's no such thing as the "wrong" eyes. There's only makeup you haven't tried yet. Start with your shape, get to know your tones, and then experiment without pressure. Real results come with a little trial, a little error, and quite a lot of fun along the way.
