Eyebrow Mistakes You Should Avoid
Claire
Have you ever felt like there is something that's slightly off with your eyebrows, but you don't really know what to do about it? Or are you trying to make them look flawless but feel like you're never quite getting there?
Having nice-looking eyebrows can really enhance your natural beauty and the thing is that it's not that hard if you know how to do it. The problem is that many just take their tweezers and start plucking without knowing what they're doing or what end result they are wanting to achieve, which can become a big problem, both short term and long term.
This article is for those of you who feel unsure how to get your brows right for your face and will help you avoid some of the most common eyebrow mistakes that people make.
Assuming that any Shape Works
Just like not every haircut works for every face, you need to choose a brow shape that is good for your face. It's easy to see a picture on Instagram and decide to go for extremely bold eyebrows with a sharp angle without considering if that would actually look good on you.
When deciding on a shape, it's usually best to look at how your brows are naturally shaped. For example, if you have straight brows, chances are you have a long face and therefore, that's the best shape for you since they make the face look shorter.
Even though you can change the shape to a certain extent, you can never get the brows to grow where they don't already grow. You might wish for a high arch, but if there are no hairs growing where the highest point should be, you just can't have it. Just like we can't change our hairline, we can't change our brows.
What we can do, however, is to make the brows fuller where they are already growing. If your brows are looking a bit thin, you can use Xbrow eyebrow serum to make them fuller.
Thinking That an Eyebrow Stencil Will Save Them
Eyebrow stencils seem like an amazing invention, but the truth is that they're not that good and if you're not careful, they might mess your brows up big time. The problem is that the stencils aren't smart, they don't know what works for your face and chances are that you will end up with brows that are weirdly shaped and don't go with the rest of your face.
Neglecting the Highlighter
One way to make the eyebrows look amazing is to use a highlighter just beneath them. If you want the effect to be extra visible you should apply a concealer before to even out the skin tone and to enhance the contrast between the brows and the skin.
Many people don't feel like putting on a ton of makeup on a normal workday. They might feel that a bit of foundation, some blush, mascara, and brow pencil is quite enough. If you're one of those people, consider adding highlighter to your routine as well, and you will notice a big difference. Besides, it doesn't take that long to quickly brush some on!
For the days when you do wear eyeshadow, make sure to build up a nice gradient from dark to light between the eye and the eyebrow. That way, you make an illusion of bigger eyes, since your eyelids look longer and it looks like the eyebrows are higher.
Getting a Permanent Tattoo
Some people have decided to get their eyebrows tattooed on so that they never will have to take care of them again. This is usually a big mistake. Firstly, if they don't end up looking nice, you will have to live with them for the rest of your life. Secondly, you will still have to pluck them and trim them, so you're not saving that much time after all.
Going Too Dark
It's usually best to go for a shade that is close to your natural hair colour or possibly the colour your hair is right now, even if it's not your natural colour. Try to think of your eyebrows as the frame of your face. When you choose a frame for a picture, you don't pick one that takes the attention from the artwork, but you buy one that will make the painting look more beautiful. Likewise, the eyebrows should make your eyes look more beautiful.
Forgetting to Trim the Eyebrows
If you've never trimmed your eyebrows before, you might think that it sounds a bit contradictory. You want to get fuller brows, right, so how can cutting them make any sense? The fact is that if you do trim them (not too short, obviously!), they can actually look fuller, especially when you use a pencil or another product on them since it goes on more easily.
When you trim your brows, you can use special little scissors, but regular scissors work just as well, especially if you have hair scissors since they are more precise than kitchen scissors. Comb your brows upwards or just use your fingers and cut along the line where the brows grow.
Thinking That They Have to be Identical
If you are interested in beauty in general, you have probably already heard that no matter how hard you try, your two face halves will never be identical and guess what? They don't have to be!
The same goes for your brows, there is no reason to think that you have to make them look exactly the same, so don't worry too much about it!
Being Too Ambitious with the Tweezers
Probably the most common eyebrow mistake is over-plucking. Of course, everyone's brows grow differently, but you probably don't need to tweeze them more than once a week. If you pluck them too much, they might even not grow back, so don't mess with the shape more than necessary.
Remove little light hairs under the brows but keep as much of the darker hairs as possible, as long as they aren't far away from the brow shape.
Over-compensating a Unibrow
Nobody wants a unibrow, that's for sure. But one mistake that many do is over-compensating by plucking too much in between the brows. You don't want an unnatural-looking gap between them. To find where your brows should start, use a makeup brush that you put in a straight line from the side of your nostril. That's where your eyebrow should start.
Not Caring at All
Some people never pay any attention to their brows. They reason that they are perfect the way they are and just like they wouldn't get a nose job, they don't need to do something to their brows to make them suit their face.
Even though it's true that your natural eyebrow shape might be the best for your face and you definitely can have very nice brows without too much interference, all brows can benefit from some extra love. It's just like cutting your hair- sure, you can just let it grow, but it does look nicer and more well-groomed if you cut it once in a while. The same goes for the brows, they can look OK without any work, but if you just trim them and pluck them a little bit, you will notice a big difference.
