5 tips for fixing dark circles under the eyes

Dark circles and bags under the eyes are relatable by many. No matter how well you've slept or how energised you feel, sometimes those dark circles make you look more tired than you actually are. Luckily, there are a few tricks you can try!

What causes dark circles under the eyes can be a list of things and one common factor is how thin the skin under the eyes are as it makes the blood vessels more visible, especially for those with fair skin. Other common reasons are lack of sleep, sun damage, or of course genetics. If you wish your dark circles were a bit less visible there are things you can try to make them less visible. These are our top 5 tips:

1. Use Xlash Awakening Eye Gels

Our Awakening Eye Gels contain an energising cocktail of vitamin C, niacinamide, peach extract, and caffeine that evens out the skin tone, reduces swelling, and makes dark circles disappear. After just 15 minutes, you'll have a smoother, clearer under-eye area. A must-have for snoozy mornings.

Here's how to use them:

Step 1: Apply the eye masks to clean, dry skin.
Step 2: Leave them on for 15 minutes or longer.
Step 3: Remove and gently pat any remaining serum into the skin.
Step 4: Follow up with your regular eye cream or moisturizer.

2. Use Wake Me Up Eye Serum

As the name suggests, this antioxidant-rich eye serum helps brighten the under-eye area while providing firmness to the skin. The effective formula is packed with camellia leaf extract, vitamin C, and jojoba oil. It absorbs quickly and can be applied under your favorite moisturizer. Use it in your morning routine for a revitalizing effect.

Here's how to use it:

Step 1: Apply to clean, dry skin (after toner if you use one).
Step 2: Massage a pea-sized amount of serum into the under-eye area.
Step 3: Follow up with your daily eye cream or moisturizer.
Step 4: Repeat every morning for best results.

3. B12 deficiency?

If you have a vitamin B12 deficiency, it could be the reason for your dark circles. The solution may be as simple as improving your diet or taking supplements. Since the body cannot produce B12 vitamins on its own, many vegans and vegetarians tend to have a deficiency in this nutrient. If you don't consume any animal-derived products and also suffer from dark circles, it may be worth considering supplements. If you're not vegetarian or vegan, make sure to eat more meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products that contain vitamin B12.

4. Use Rejuvenating & Super Youth Peptide Eye Gels

Instagram's most famous eye patches? Our signature eye masks aren't just selfie-friendly – they also work hard to make the world believe you've just come from a yoga retreat.

Rejuvenating Eye Gels: Four types of hyaluronic acid (HA4) and amino acids replenish moisture, plump up fragile skin, and reduce puffiness. Lavender provides both you and your skin with much-needed Zen. A quarter is all you need.
Super Youth Peptide Eye Gels: An active (yet gentle) combination of bakuchiol, retinol, and peptides to visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines and strengthen the skin barrier. Use as part of your evening routine 15 minutes before bedtime for firmer and smoother skin.

5. Eye Massage – the solution for dark circles and bags

A little massage can't hurt, right? This is a great trick to reduce dark circles. By regularly performing eye massages, you strengthen the eye muscles while tightening the skin. Our recommendation is to massage the eye area at least once a day. Take the opportunity to do it after applying eye serum or eye cream.

Our best eye massage exercises:

  1. Circular Movements: Close your eyes and make circular movements around the eyelids with your fingers. Start by moving in one direction and then do the same in the opposite direction. Repeat this four times in each direction.

  2. Up and Down Movements: Close your eyes, look upwards, and then downwards. Repeat eight times.

  3. Eye Blinking: Look straight ahead and blink quickly for 30 seconds. Repeat three times.

  4. The "V" Exercise: Look up towards the left side, then down, and then up towards the right side, and finally down again. Repeat seven to eight times.

  5. Focus on a Specific Point: Keep your eyes fully open and focus on a specific point for a few seconds.

  6. Massage: Close your eyes and gently press your palms against your eyelids. Keep it for one to two minutes.
