A Step-By-Step Guide to Plucking Your Eyebrows

Andrea

Although most woman regularly pluck their eyebrows, pulling at those tiny hairs with a vision is not as easy as it seems.

There have been many times in the past where I have completely messed up my brows because I was either over-plucking them or didn’t know how to create a nice shape. It took me a lot of time to figure out what I was doing wrong and finally get those perfect brows.

So if you want to become an expert in plucking your eyebrows, follow these 10 simple steps that will guide you through the whole process.

1. Choose the Perfect Tweezers

The first thing you need to do, before we get to the actual plucking, is to choose good tweezers. No matter how skilled you are at plucking your brows, bad tweezers can throw you off your game.

What you want are high-quality slanted tweezers that are very precise. Low-quality tweezers tend to break the hairs instead of actually plucking them so you might not get the results that you want and it will make the whole process a lot harder. Obviously I recommend you check out the Xbrow Tweezers, I find they make plucking a lot easier as they have a good grip and are precise so it’s much simpler to pluck at those hairs.

2. Soften Your Brow Hairs

To make the hairs easier to pluck, it’s a good idea to soften the skin before you start plucking. The easiest way to do that is by plucking right after you get out of the shower because that opens up your pores, but that’s not always possible. So another thing you can do is wash your face with warm water or use a cotton pad and, soak it in hot water and then apply to your brows.

This process makes the brow hair less stiff and it will be much easier to remove.

3. Use a Numbing Gel

Let’s be honest, plucking hurts. Even when you soften the hairs with steam and hot water, it can still be very uncomfortable, especially before and during your period when your skin is very sensitive.

So in order to ease the pain, I suggest that you apply a numbing gel before you start plucking. It will numb the skin around your brow area and make plucking a lot less painful. That will enable you to focus more on getting a nice shape, instead of being distracted by the pain.

4. Use a Regular Mirror

Your instinct might be to use a magnifying mirror when plucking your eyebrows since you get a more detailed look. But it can do more harm than good.

Why?

Well, since you see your brows up close and all the little hairs, it tends to lead you to overplucking. So once you step back and look at your eyebrows in a normal mirror, you see that you plucked too many hairs and your brows look sparse and thin.

So ditch your magnifying mirror and stick with a normal one.

5. Figure Out Where Your Brows Should Start

Now you should determine where your eyebrows should start. Having them too close together may result in a unibrow, while having them too much apart may look kind of weird and unnatural.

Of course, everybody has a different face and brow shape, but there’s a simple technique that works for everybody. Use your tweezers or a makeup brush with a long handle and align it with the outer edge of your nose and the inner edge of your eye. That will point to where your eyebrows should start. Repeat this for both brows and make a small dot with a white pencil.

6. Identify Where Your Brows Should End

You should also determine where your eyebrows should end. The process is similar as in the previous step, but this time you should align the instrument you’re using with the outer edge of your nostril and the outer edge of your eye.

Mark this point as well with a white pencil.

7. Determine the Thickness of Your Eyebrows

The final step before you start plucking is determining how thick you want your brows to be. If you want to follow the latest brow trends, then you should with very thick and bold.

8. Create Your Perfect Shape

Now it’s finally time to pluck your eyebrows and create that perfect shape. Use the markers you have made to help you determine which hairs to pluck at the beginning and end of your brows. Also get rid of any stray hairs on the bottom and the top. However, be careful when plucking the top of your eyebrows because you don’t want to remove much hair there, only a couple of hairs that are really sticking out.

When plucking the hairs, do it one at a time and grab them at the root with the tweezers. The general rule is to go slowly and check your eyebrows as you’re plucking to avoid overdoing it. Also try to make both of your brows as symmetrical as possible, but don’t worry if they’re not identically because they really can’t be.

9. Trim Your Brows

If you have really thick and long brow hair, you might want to trim your brows after you pluck them. Comb the hairs up and trim the hairs that are sticking out.

10. Soothe Your Skin

When you’re done with plucking your eyebrows, your skin is going to be very sensitive and irritated. That’s why you should always apply a soothing moisturizing cream.
