Mascara is something most of us love to use, whether for everyday wear or special occasions. With just a few strokes of the brush, you can achieve fantastic results. However, we dare to say that there are a few tricks that can take your lashes to the next level! In this article, we share some of those tricks!
A Good Base for Mascara
Without a good foundation, you might as well skip building a house, right? The same principle applies to mascara! Here, you have two options that you can do separately or combine:
Long-term: Start with Eyelash Serum
For those who have a bit more time, we recommend starting with an eyelash serum. This will not only make your natural lashes look magical but will also take your mascara-coated lashes to the next level! As someone who usually wears false lashes for parties, I skip them entirely when I've been using eyelash serum regularly; it's simply not needed! An eyelash serum is easy to use. We recommend one called Xlash, which you apply once a day after washing your face, preferably in the evening when you're not wearing makeup. Repeat this daily, and you can expect results in just 28 days. It takes a little time, but we promise it's worth it!
Short-term: Prime with Concealer
Concealer on your eyelashes? Yes, you read that right. This trick will quickly and easily give your lashes more volume and a fuller look. It works by giving your mascara a more grippable base and adding extra surface area for the mascara to adhere to.
Should I mention that this is a trick Kim Kardashian also uses? She applies a liquid concealer with a small brush or a cleaned old mascara brush to her lashes. Then she lets it dry before applying mascara.
Curled Eyelashes
The next important step to achieving longer-looking lashes is to get the perfect curl. Here, an eyelash curler will be your best friend. Our tip is the Xlash eyelash curler with pressure regulation, ensuring your lashes get a gentle curl without damage.
How to Curl Your Eyelashes Correctly
Curling your eyelashes correctly involves two things: curling them without causing damage and curling them so they look naturally curved. When it comes to being gentle, you'll get a lot of help from the curler itself if you use the Xlash curler with pressure regulation. But if you don't have one, our main tip is not to press too hard and avoid pulling on the lashes while curling them.
Angle and Curl Points
Now for the stylish and natural curl. You'll need to focus on the angle you hold the eyelash curler and curl the lash at more points than just the root.
The first curl is done at the root, where the lashes are most sensitive, so you should also have a following angle as possible. Remember to press gently. The next curl is done in the middle of the lash, and here you can start to take it out a bit. Angle the eyelash curler so it is level with the ground. Finally, curl the tips of your lashes, holding the eyelash curler slightly upward. This way, you create three different angles, giving your lashes a beautiful arch that still looks natural!
BONUS TIP!
If you want the curl to hold extra well during a night out or similar, you can heat your eyelash curler! Just like with a curling iron or flat iron, your lashes will hold their shape longer with a bit of heat. Blow-dry your eyelash curler, then test it lightly against your hand to avoid burning your eyelids. After that, just curl as described above!
Applying the Mascara
Last but not least comes the mascara! Here are four tips to help you achieve a much better result when you apply mascara:
Avoid Clumps
One of the biggest causes of clumpy lashes is getting too much product on the brush and then on the lashes. A simple trick to avoid mascara clumping is to brush off the excess mascara on some tissue paper. This way, you have more control and can build up the lashes to the desired thickness. You can then scrape up what's left on the tissue paper and use it on the lower lashes. Never waste unnecessarily!
More Mascara at the Root
A common mistake many make is applying an equally thick layer of mascara over the entire lash. This will eventually result in the lashes being weighed down and becoming straight, even though you've worked hard to curl them correctly. Our tip is to place the brush as close to the root as possible and wiggle the brush while slowly pulling it through the lashes. This way, most of the product ends up at the base and less towards the tips.
Powder for Increased Volume
If you're looking for lashes that are fuller and longer, we highly recommend a layer of transparent powder between the first and second coat of mascara! This will work just like the concealer, giving the next layer of mascara better grip and more surface to adhere to.
Use Waterproof Mascara
Our next-to-last tip is to use waterproof mascara. Besides being able to withstand both rain and happy tears, the shape of your eyelashes will also hold much better! Our recommendation for waterproof mascara is Xlash Mascara, which not only makes lashes look beautiful but also contains nourishing ingredients to make them stronger and healthier!
Summary
In summary, we hope these tricks will help you take your mascara use to the next level! Remember to always remove your makeup at the end of the day and do so gently with an oil-based remover that melts the makeup away. This way, you won't have to rub the makeup off physically, and you'll be left with some moisturizing oil on your lashes.
Good luck!
